On 7th of Aug -2020 the third phase of Reconnaissance/ Recce from ALCHI to SUMDHA- CHUN AND MANGYU was conducted.
Following were the members of LMGA team for the third phase of Recce to Alchi to Mangue Via Sumdha Chun:

On 7th of Aug -2020 the third phase of Reconnaissance/ Recce from ALCHI to SUMDHA- CHUN AND MANGYU was conducted.
DA Y 1: ALCHI to ALCHI DROK:
On the first day we started by entering into the narrow valley of ALCHI TOKPO towards Drok. We gained heights slowly through the valley. DROK is the summer grazing place of Alchi village. Every summer the shepherds and the herders of the village spend most of the time in the upper valleys with their livestock. The valley is fully green with different types of grasses and herbs.
Duration: Approx. 7 hrs
Overnight: DROKSA PULLU (34°11’09.03”N, 77°10’23.06”E)
Camp Elevation: 4,150 m
DAY 2: ALCHI DROK to SUMDHA-CHUN via Stakspay-la (5,146m):
On the second day, we started ascending towards Stakspay-la (5,146 m). The beginning part of the trek is bit challenge as the ascent of the pass is quite steep but an easy descends all the way down till Sumdha-Chun.
Duration: Approx. 7 hrs
Overnight: SUMDHA-CHUN (34°08’08.1”N, 77°09’00.466”E)

Recommended: Top part of the pass around (100 meter) need to be repair for horses.
DAY 3: SUMDHA-CHUN to LARTSA:
As compared to the previous days, the day had a gradual ascent through a long and wide valley till the base of the pass (LARTSA).
Duration: Approx. 7 hrs
Overnight: LARTSA
Camp Elevation: 4,500m
Recommended: Campsite construction is needed
DAY 4: LARTSA to LARDOO-DROKSA:
After ascending to the pass______ La 5,399 m, and we took a small break (phone and internet connection is very good on the pass) and then descended till LARDOO- DOKSA. LARDOO-DOKSA has many fields on both sides of the stream water and it used to be the summer place of Alchi,and Lardoo villages.
Duration: Approx. 7 hrs
Overnight: LARDOO-DROKSA (34°12’08.6”N, 77°06’56.06”E)
Camp Elevation: 3,924 m
Recommended: The trail of around (400 meter) before top of the pass and around (400 meter) after the pass towards LARDOO-DROKSA is needed to be paved properly.
DAY 5: LARDOO-DROKSA to MACHU-DROKSA via KANDARI- LA (4,245 m):
We continued descending down from the upper DROKSA till the end of lower DROKSA from left side of the valley. As we reached the end of the DROKSA we turned left and ascended to the pass known by KANDARI-LA (4,245 m), also known as the White rock tower. The ascent of the pass is normal and a long valley till the top of the pass and the descend is quite normal all the way down to MACHU-DROKSA.

Duration: Approx. 7 hrs
Overnight: MACHU-DROKSA) (34°13’5. 83”N, 77°04’27. 77”E) Camp Elevation: 3,740 m
Recommended: Around 400 meter before top of the pass and 300 meter after the pass are needed to be paved properly and the rest of the trails are needed to be repaired. If we use the fields for camping then its bit higher than the stream water so water will be quite far. Although there are some places where we can camp near the stream.
DAY 6: MACHU-DROKSA to MANGYU VILLAGE via SGOKSTANG-La (3,840m):
Ascending to the pass starts gradually after crossing stream water. It was an easy trek as well as short as compared to past days. On the top of the SGOKSTANG-La we will get a beautiful picturesque view of MANGYU. Two of our members took different trail and went down towards Macho Do village and informed that the trail is in very good condition and the village is very beautiful.

Overnight: MANGYU village Camp Elevation: 3,500m
Recommended: The existing old trail is quite good but in-between it needs to be repair. You can Camp at Macho do Village in case wish to extend the trek duration or days and move to Mangue village next day.
